Jeffrey Davies
Jeffrey Davies studied singing with Roy Hickman, Gordon Clinton and Jan Heye in Glasgow, Birmingham, Rotterdam and at the University of Wisconsin where among other things, acting in T.V commercials helped to pay for his studies, which included vocal pedagogy and opera performance.
Jeffrey performed widely in the U.K. and abroad in concerts, oratorio and opera, including with Wisconsin Opera, Madison Opera, Scottish Opera, Hamburg State Opera, at the Edinburgh Festival, and locally with Claxton Opera. He has performed in and directed plays including in the U.S.A (with Tom Wopat), at the Traverse Theatre Edinburgh, the Clarenden Players in Nottingham (with Richard Beckinsale), and at the Maddermarket and Sewell Barn Theatres in Norwich. He has also directed numerous operas in the U.S.A., the Netherlands and here in the East Anglia region with Opera da Camera which he founded in 1981, staging operas in unusual places, including a tent in a force seven gale and a shopping centre, as well as theatres in Clacton, Chelmsford, the St.George’s Festival, and three times at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival. Jeffrey also directed the Norfolk Opera Players including “Martha”, “The Elixier of Love” and “Queen of Spades” at St. Andrew’s Hall and “Carmen”, “Tales of Hoffman” and “Cavalleria Rusticana” at the Theatre Royal in Norwich. For the North Norfolk Opera Company, he directed Lennox Berkeley’s “A Dinner Engagement” at the Sheringham Little Theatre, and last year, Mozart’s “The Impresario” and Donizetti’s “The Night Bell” here at the Auden Theatre.
Jeffrey is a member of the mentor panel of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music CT ABRSM course, the National Association of Teachers of Singing (USA, the Association of Teachers of Singing, and the British Voice Association for which he is currently a director and council member. He is currently working with students at the Royal Academy of Music where he is leading research into the use of computer technology in the training of singers. Jeffrey teaches singing and voice production in Norwich and Cromer, and enjoys walking and relaxing in North Norfolk.
